Four Year Olds
Our focus in our four year-old program is preparing children for kindergarden academically, socially, and emotionally. Our program structure supports many skills that are needed for kindergarden readiness.
We work with our students one-on-one and in small group settings to monitor student progress and class preparedness.
Our school curriculum takes into account and is based on the NYS Common Core Learning Standards for Pre-K students.
Throughout the school year we work with our students to ensure:
CIRCLE TIME: Our large group meeting time consists of calendar, weather, days of the week, alphabet concept activities, songs, and story.
READING/WRITING: Each week we focus on a different letter. Through practice with recognition and writing, students work their way through the alphabet. We introduce short word books that children can read independently.
MATH: We provide various games, songs, and choice play activities in which students learn their numbers and begin exploring addition and subtraction.
CHOICE PLAY: Children learn best through social interaction and making their own choices. We integrate free choice play into our daily routine where children learn how to positively interact with their peers. Children enjoy making their own puppet shows, building railroad tracks, and sorting objects by color and size.
FIELD TRIPS: In order to instill a sense of community and growth in our children we go on field trips every month and have guest speakers visit our classroom. Past trips include the library, farm, and the dentist.
